Dinner FAIL Tonite

January 9, 2013 by Carole

I’ve been trying to come up with creative ways to use the excessive amounts of crescent rolls in my fridge. Around Thanksgiving the opportunity came up to purchase crescent rolls at Kroger for about $.40 a can, and…I became a hoarder of crescents. It’s amazing how many recipes you can find on Pinterest involving that one ingredient. I found a few that sounded great, and by combining several, came up with one that seemed like a winner:

1 can of crescent rolls
about 2 cups of cooked shredded chicken
cheddar cheese
small can of chopped green chilies
cream of chicken soup

Roll chicken, cheese, and chilies in each crescent and pinch close. They will look sloppy, and not like your typical crescents. Line them up in a 9×13 greased pan. Heat the cream of chicken and a can of milk until it’s smooth and pour over the rolls. Put in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.

In theory, this recipe seems like it would taste great. Unfortunately, the chicken part was less than appealing. It tasted, for lack of a better word, old. Princess, who normally will eat anything, completely snubbed the concoction. The chicken used was cooked (by boiling) on Sunday. I’m not sure if it was because the cooked chicken had been in the fridge since Sunday night (today’s Tuesday), or because it was a mixture of dark and white meat (chicken pieces were leg quarters), or because I just don’t know what I’m doing.

I will try it again, after all, there are lots of crescent rolls that need to be cooked. Just gonna keep working on the best way to cook the chicken. Any suggestions?

You win some you lose some, I have found that dark meat tastes old quicker than the white meat- but then I am not a big fan of dark meat anyitme. Of course, it have just been an off night.

    Buffalo Chicken Crescent Wraps
    2 blocks cream cheese
    Half bottle of ranch
Half bottle of Texas Pete’s Hot Sauce
1 bag (2 cups) mozzarella cheese
1 pound cooked chicken (I use three of the little bags of grilled slices chicken and shred it)
Throw all of above in to crockpot for a couple of hours
Wrap up in crescents and bake as directed on the package
Also great as a dip, with frito’s or wheat thins!

Carole you’re cracking me up. Your recipe sounds great. I love all the ingredients. I can’t imagine it turned out bad. Your chicken must have been off from being a couple of days old. I use leg quarters all the time with great results, but I usually use it the same day I boil it. I can’t wait to hear how Angela’s recipe taste. Give it a try and let us know.
