Garden Update- Frost burned in May!
2May 10, 2013 by Buffy
This wild Arkansas weather has made gardening hard! I’ve never had plants get frost burned in May! May! Last week’s cold snap that brought snow to parts of Arkansas in May also took out my freshly sprouted cucumbers! I replanted them today.
Luckily my squash seeds had not sprouted yet, so they survived.
My tomatoes are thriving despite the cold weather.
I have lost a couple heads of lettuce. I’m not sure what caused this, I’ve never grown lettuce before.
I have one head of broccoli growing! This is the only one left after the crazy cow raided the garden.
My potatoes and onions are growing at an amazing rate.
Farmer Rick freshly tilled the back of the garden. He is hoping I get the green beans and peas in before the rain comes tonight. He likes to make sure I have something to do while he is at work and the kids are at school! So off the blog and out into the garden I go. I hope you enjoyed the view into my garden. Any ideas on what is happening to my lettuce would be appreciated.
Really enjoyed the view of your garden. It’s HUGE! It’s strange that we apparently can no longer depend on appropriate weather for the various months. Glad so much survived the frost. I’m not much of a veggie gardener, so don’t know what caused the lettuce problem. I’ve only grown chard, once, and it seemed to live through anything!
Lovely garden, you are gong to be eating well this summer. All I know is that lettuce does not really like it too hot(did it get suddenly hotter?) so it may be wilt. They look like great lettuce too! A cow in your garden must have been a bit of a surprise.. c
