Garden update- Sunflowers
7July 16, 2013 by Buffy
We have a beautiful new addition to our garden this year, sunflowers. These are not just any sunflowers, these are special sunflowers.
We planted these sunflowers in memory of Spotty’s friend Hayden. Hayden was called to Heaven to be an angel last Summer at the too young age of almost 8. Hayden loved to have a competition with his family each year to see who could grow the biggest sunflower. So this year, Spotty, Macy(a very beautiful, young guest gardener) and I decided to try our hand at a little sunflower competition.
Of course Spotty’s are the biggest!
And Macy’s are the prettiest.
They all make me smile. They also remind me to count my blessings, hug my kids, and say a prayer for Hayden’s sweet family. Hayden’s tradition continues to make the world a brighter place.
If you have never planted a sunflower, you should give it a try. Maybe you can have a little friendly competition in your garden. It’s guaranteed to brighten your garden.
Sunflowers are one of my favourite summer flowers! They are so bright and cheerful! Of all of the flowers growing in your garden, I like the red ones the best! 🙂
Thanks! My sunflowers are definitely the most inspiring flowers in our garden! But I have a few more flowers that gardeners cherish, watch for that post to come soon!
Looking forward to it! 🙂
Awesome. 🙂
What a great way to remember him. I’m sure he’s smiling from heaven.
What a lovely thing to do, I haven’t grown sunflowers since the kids where really young, always thought it inspired them that a seed so small could grow to be so tall and beautiful
You are exactly right! We have had a lot of fun watching them grow to over 8 feet tall!
