Apples, apples and more apples

The kids picked a 5 gallon bucket of Granny Smith Apples from their uncle’s apple tree. Yes, 5 gallons! Oh my! I only know one way to preserve them, apple butter. This is one of the easiest canning recipes and it is so yummy. It is not an old family secret recipe. It is actually out of the Ball Blue Book.
The apples didn’t look that great when they came in so I added a little vinegar to the water when I washed them. They cleaned up great. (Sorry there is no after photo.) Then just follow the recipe. I used 18 apples and it turned out perfect.
If you have a food mill, this recipe is a breeze. There is no peeling or coring. It separates the cooked pulp from the seeds and peels.
In less than an hour, I made 11 half pints of fresh apple butter! Plenty to share. Apple butter on warm biscuits makes the perfect quick breakfast for the kids.
Any suggestions on what to do with the rest of the apples? I only used 18!
Looks great. I remember making this year’s ago and you loved it then. Hope I am on your list of persons to share.
I have never seen a food mill before. That is handy. What else do u use it for?
I actually found a recipe for canning apple pie filling, i used my last jar tonight. don’t remember where I got the recipe, though
