Garden update- replanting
7June 22, 2014 by Buffy
Our garden has suffered from way too much rain this Spring. I’m not complaining, well maybe a little. We have lost several tomato plants to rotting. This time last year we had tomatoes climbing out the top of the wire baskets. They are just barely hanging in there this year.
We did get this little beauty this week. The first tomato of the season!
We dug all the potatoes up this week to make room for more planting. We got a nice harvest of potatoes but we were more amazed at the size of earth worms we grew under the straw in the potato row. They were amazingly fat, long and snake-like! Sorry no photo.
We have planted a second round of squash and cucumbers. Our first round of cucumbers are staring to produce, but are showing signs of stress from too much rain. Our squash has been rotting before getting big enough to pick. It is very disappointing, but in true farmer fashion we just plant more and hope for the best.
The green beans have loved the rain. Have I mentioned I hate to pick green beans. Oh well, at least something is growing and thriving! We also have this beauty.
I love sunflowers! They make me happy! It also means there is always a bright spot in the garden!
Oh! I can’t wait for our Sunnies to bloom!
I have a whole row of sunflowers in the back if they will just grow! It should be lovely!
It’s so disappointing when you spend your time and things like too much rain or to many voles wipe you out. Hopefully the weather has peaked and your second plantings will produce better for you!!
I googled your voles because I had never heard of them. I’m not sure I could stand them! I hope you win the battle!
All you people with your early warm temps make me jealous! We were cold forever an have been soaked since we warmed up. Good news is all of or seeds have at least sprouted now 🙂
I sure hope your garden does better than ours has so far.
I sure hope the second planting turns out good! There’s either too much or too little. Why can’t we just be normal?
