Chick update
3June 23, 2014 by Buffy
Our chicks are growing fast. They have outgrown their small brooder box.
So Farmer Rick built them a new chicken tractor. This will be a nice safe place for them to grow until they are big enough to join our other chickens.
Farmer Rick also started a new batch in the incubator. 17 eggs set to hatch on the 4th of July weekend!
These again will be mixed breed chicks from our brown egg laying hens and our blue maran rooster. I sold a couple of chicks out of the first hatch. A new back yard flock has been started! Of course I bet she will want a few more once she falls in love with them.
Does hubby have a pattern for that chicken truck? I think it would also work well for breaking hens from being broody. I’m down to 1/2 my egg count because so many have decided they want their own babies. I have three hens trying for their second clutch of babes this spring. I’m also getting more roosters than hens. Think I’ll buy my chicks next year from McMurray Hatchery.
No plans. Sorry! Farmer Rick is a pretty handy builder. It must be those 10 years in the family construction business. I did add a photo to the post so you could see the bare bones. I hope that helps.
