We had beautiful weather yesterday! Farmer Rick spent most of his day off cleaning up the garden. Spotty and I helped a little too. We removed the butter beans that were yellow and overrun with weeds. We also picked the last of the brussel sprouts and removed them. We took out the very sad first planting of squash. We tilled in some lime and replanted those areas with crowder peas, purple hull peas and a second planting of green beans. It has been a very disappointing gardening year for us so far, but fingers crossed maybe it is just getting a late start. I am usually canning on the 4th, not this year. This year we are just glad to have a few tomatoes to slice for burgers.
Our second round of squash is up and starting to bloom.
Our second round of cucumbers are thriving too. Farmer Rick built them a climbing fence. It is amazing to see how fast they cling on and start to climb!
Our zipper cream peas are starting to bloom. I’m expecting a bumper crop. This was our favorite new thing we planted last year.
Our okra is starting to produce!
Come on Tomatoes!
I hope your garden is growing! I’ll have a hatch day update tomorrow! The eggs are a rockin!
