Lessons Learned in the Garden this Summer -Cucumbers

Farmer Rick and I love to grow our vegetable garden. Each year we work in it, we learn something new. So for the next couple of weeks I would like to share what we learned this Summer. We learned that Summer Dancer cucumbers are our favorite variety of cucumbers.
We were given some seeds from one of Farmer Rick’s friends. Summer dancer are the most delicious and beautiful cucumbers. They were long, smooth and dark green with very tiny seeds. They were thin-skinned which made them yummy even without peeling them. This variety was a prolific producer. My family enjoyed these cucumbers as appetizers before most meals all Summer long. We sliced them and served with homemade buttermilk ranch dressing. This variety pickled well too. Thanks again for the seeds, Daniel.
We also would like to mention this variety grew beautifully on a trellis as do most cucumbers.
This is by far the best way to grow cucumbers. They take up less garden space and make picking the cucumbers so easy! Are you growing cucumbers on a trellis?
Check back to see what else we learned in the garden this Summer.
We grew cukes on a trellis this year, and they grew so big and prolific that they knocked the supports clean over and catapulted themselves into the next bed, which they promptly overtook. It was awesome.
It is fun to watch them grow!
