Fall Garden- Better late than never

We finally got the Fall garden planted!  We are a couple of weeks late, but fingers crossed maybe it will grow.

We planted a Fall crop of squash a few weeks back and it is starting to bloom and climb.  Hopefully the frost will hold off a few more weeks.

imageWe planted 4 varieties of squash, spaghetti, crook neck, straight neck and butternut.  We fell in love with spaghetti and butternut squash this Summer.

Today, we added romaine lettuce, broccoli and cauliflower plants.  Our children love romaine lettuce.

We also planted spinach, turnip and sugar snap pea seeds.  We have never raised sugar snap peas before.

imageI really hope they grow!  Farmer Rick is starting to train the next generation on running the tiller.

I love to have our children help in the garden.  BP our teenage son asked at dinner,  “What is the difference between peas and beans?”  Before we could answer he said, “Oh yeah, I know beans grow under the ground.”  Wow! He may need to spend a little more time helping in the garden.  You have to love teenagers!   How is your fall garden growing?

Your garden looks great! I didn’t plant anything for fall but I planted sugar snap peas in February this year and they were wonderful. You might need something for them to climb on.

    Your garden has really produced.
I found a recipe for oven baked fried green tomatoes. I am going to try it.

  3. Your garden looks great! I’m not planting a fall garden this year but seeing yours makes me wish I had!

My fingers are crossed with yours. We planted everything late this year, in some cases a month late. It’s all coming up great, but our average first frost date is approaching fast.

It looks like your tomatoes and peppers haven’t given up yet. 🙂 And it’s great to see the next generation learning to garden!

We are still getting tons of tomatoes and peppers! The tomatoes aren’t very pretty, but they are yummy. My fingers are crossed for fall squash. Happy gardening!
