St. Joseph’s Center of Arkansas

image Tomorrow is giving Tuesday.  So I would like to share one of my favorite non-profits with you.  I fell in love with this place the first time I visited and have enjoyed volunteering at this beautiful place for the last year.

St. Joseph’s Home is a historic landmark in North Little Rock including 63 beautiful acres. After over one hundred years of serving the community as an orphanage, school, farm and day care, it became no longer financially viable. The Diocese of Little Rock was faced with the need to sell the building due to the high operating expenses. In 2009 a small group known as St. Joseph’s Center of Arkansas stepped in and secured a fifty year lease of the property and building. This was the first step in saving the historic Catholic landmark.

Today SJCA is in the final stages of Historic Preservation for this amazing building.   SJCA has a plan that will help return St. Joseph’s to its former glory while continuing its mission to serve the community and its most deserving members.

SJCA is working hard to bring St. Joseph’s back to life.  They have a well-established food distribution ministry which serves several counties and provides food every week to feed the hungry.

SJCA has rentable suites and rooms in this beautiful historic building with the absolute most amazing views.  It is a wonderful location to host your group retreats.

What a view!

Local community artists rent art space in the lofty fourth floor rooms of St Joseph’s overlooking the city of Little Rock.

St. Joseph Center is also fast becoming a place to host receptions.  This is not surprising with the beautiful, secluded, parklike setting.  They are already booking dates for 2015.

SJCA has been working to highlight the 63 acre farm that makes up the beautiful property.

They have hosted farm workshops, farm to table dinners and youth educational days.  The farm produces cattle, meat poultry, fruit, nuts and several vegetable gardens.  They have also been installing a living food forest to help feed the hungry.  St. Joseph’s Center recently received the Arkansas century Farm award for 100 years of farming.

In the center is Mr. Grebs.  He has ran the farm for most of those 100 years!

SJCA also supports Arkansas Delta farmers with a Farm Stand to sell their produce.

SJCA has a community garden where you can rent a garden plot for your own garden.  This was a big success this year and they have made plans to expand the area to add more plots.

image Thank you St. Joseph’s Center of Arkansas for continuing the mission to serve the local community.  If you would like to help support this wonderful non-profit organization you can by giving your time or you can donate to them by clicking SJCA    You could also book a reception, rent a room, secure a garden plot, create something in your own personal art studio or share their story with a friend.  There are lots of ways to give.

Thank you for taking time to read about one of my favorite places! Remember: He which sows sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which sows bountifully shall reap also bountifully. 2 Corinthians 9:6. Happy Giving Tuesday!

I had never heard of it till about ten years ago. I feel in love with it instantly. It was just sitting almost vacant. It is beautiful property and the building was once a masterpiece. The stained glass in the chapel is amazing.
