Three meter long tunnel

Chairman hans moos and his team had come up with something special this time – a three-meter-long stud.

The proceeds from the sale will go mainly to the kindergarten in trebgaste. "But we want to use the first 20 euros as seed money for our new project.", the chairman surprised the visitors. At a distance of ten meters, a target lights up in various colors and coarsenesses, depending on whether you are shooting with an air rifle or an air pistol. More attractive also for the spectators

But it wasn’t just the guards who were thought of with the new sliding facility, but also the spectators. For on a rough canvas the slide results can be followed immediately. Viewers get to see directly how the score stands in a shoving match, and no longer have to wait for individual cards to be scored. In this way, even when pushing, tension can arise, which had often not been possible in the old form of competitions.

A lot of time and money invested

The unfinden guardian association has spent several thousand euros on this new facility, as guardian master daniel giebl explained when he proudly presented the facility on sunday afternoon. But that was not the only thing that made the new bar possible; a few hundred hours of volunteer work also went into it. "Without you it would not have worked!", he praised the great help of the members.

City councillor thomas hendrich was also impressed, speaking on behalf of mayor claus bittenbrunn and describing the facility as a "quantum leap" and described, as it were, as a lighthouse project in the pushing sport.

The competition that followed the official handover showed that the new plant passed its baptism of fire with flying colors. The eight best shooters of the club competed against each other in the air pistol and air rifle disciplines in the final shoot-off for the club championship, which the numerous spectators were able to follow attentively on the big screen. Winner and winner of the club championship cups were tobias piechaczek with the air pistol and mirko streng with the air rifle.

Doing good without bureaucratic hassle: this is what the savings bank coburg-lichtenfels wants to offer its customers. On friday the three board members siegfried wolki, roland vogel and martin faber founded the foundation community of the savings bank.

Foundation community means: if you want to permanently allocate capital to a good cause, you no longer have to establish your own foundation. He or she can give the designated capital to the endowment fund. The purpose of the proceeds is determined by the donor. Only the capital investment and the administration of the foundation are no longer his concern. This is done by deutsche stiftungstreuhand (furth) on behalf of the savings bank. The savings bank itself sees to it that the specified purpose of the foundation is adhered to and that the money goes to the institutions that the donor had in mind.

This is a rough problem that many donors face, says stephan franke, customer advisor at sparkasse coburg-lichtenfels. Franke manages an aunt's foundation himself. "Who will do it when I can't do it anymore? – this question is on his mind and on the minds of many people who want to set up a foundation, he says.

This is no longer an issue with the donor community. There are also other advantages for donors, explains horst ohlmann, chairman of the board of deutsche stiftungstreuhand: "if you give capital to a foundation, you can deduct it from your taxable income. Depending on the tax rate and the capital contributed, this can be more lucrative for the founder than a cash investment.

In addition, donors can join the foundation community on a smaller scale: 25,000 euros is sufficient here; those who want to set up their own foundation must raise at least 50,000 euros. In times of low interest rates, of course, that's not much: foundations are only allowed to distribute their earnings, the capital itself may not be touched. But even small contributions can do good, emphasizes horst ohlmann. In his experience, many donors also use the foundation community to first try out whether this is the right way for them to use their assets. "Establishing a foundation is a bit like making a will." That's why this step is usually considered for a long time "and often it's the women who put the brakes on". The money invested can hardly be recovered. "That's why every aspect of old-age provision should be covered.", ohlmann and stephan franke emphasize.

About ten years ago, the foundation community as such was invented for the bavarian savings banks; according to ohlmann, the first one was founded by the savings bank in bamberg. The beginnings were modest: after the first year, the donors' association was able to disburse around 73 euros. But in the meantime, the capital invested has grown considerably, and now over 123,000 euros have been donated to more than 50 different institutions.

Ohlmann also mentioned the fact that the founders can easily change the purpose of their foundation. This is no longer possible with an own foundation. It is also possible to regulate the support of one's own relatives, said ohlmann. However, in a non-profit foundation community, this means a certain amount of effort. "This is no longer done with just a signature." Otherwise, donating within the community of donors is very simple.

"It is a long-term project that will benefit the life of the community, ohlmann is convinced. Experience has shown, on the one hand, that 90 percent of the proceeds remain in the region. On the other hand, a large proportion of the foundations are increased over time, usually because the donor leaves his assets to his foundation. "We can see from the demand that there is interest here, says stephan franke. A large proportion of those interested are between 40 and 50 years old and single. The second rough group of interested parties are people over 55 who want to commit their assets and do not have any relatives who depend on them.

"As a child, forchheim was very easy to understand for me", says the jubilarian, whose trademarks are his trouser straps and the bicycle he rides through the city.

"At the canal harbor, not far from the preserved schleusenwarter house, where today there is a shopping center, i used to go ice skating and sledding on the weingartsteig trail. There was the ‘seven hills’, and there was not a single house in sight, franz streit remembers a little wistfully.

Stepped in father’s footsteps

As a native of forchheim who feels most at home between the neder-brau and the kellerwald, he was there firsthand when the city expanded in all directions. The altar boy of st. Martin, who grew up right next to the church, still vividly remembers the altar boy excursion, when the altar boys of the diocese traveled to altotting on a special train under the leadership of the then city pastor johann fiedler. "I could have imagined being a chef as an alternative career, but that was probably because I’ve always loved to eat." But it wasn’t even enough to hobby cook.

Hot love in cold winter

He met his wife karin at a skiing trip organized by horst knaute, who was the district youth welfare officer at the time. "I liked the needle and didn’t let go", the jubilarian tells. That was in 1973. They got married in 1975.

His second great love, local politics, found dispute in 1978. "At that time, eduard noth asked me if I would like to run for office on the CSU list. I have agreed, but far behind, on place 28". The businessman was preselected for seventh place. "I was totally surprised", stresses streit, who had a local political role model in paul weber. He was unagitated and determined.

Franz streit, who has improved his results in every election since 1978 and has been mayor of his hometown since 2002, represents forchheim like hardly anyone else. His outstanding characteristics: down-to-earth, straightforward, reliable, and humorous. He describes himself with a wink "too heavy for the world"."

And further: "even if I am in conflict, I am in need of harmony." But that did not mean he avoided controversy. "When I am convinced of something, I fight for it. I don’t let anyone or anything get in my way."

Justice and fairness are important

Justice and fairness are important to the honorary judge. He adds: "in the courtroom, I have always sat upstairs, never in the dock."

The 70-year-old’s favorite drink is definitely beer. I like a tart beer, which should never be missing from the fridge. "I am less selective when it comes to food. I eat everything, but I like short-roasted food best, like steaks or frankfurters," says streit, betrayal quarrel, who especially appreciates italian cuisine.

As a beer-genius, the forchheim native is also a spat homecomer in due time. But that does not exclude the early riser. "I cannot work at night. To solve problems, I have to be rested", franz streit confesses. In his active career, he regularly got up at 5 a.M. On weekdays to read the newspaper and drink coffee first, and to start his day in good shape. Even as a child, he crawled out of bed early to go to the altar. "I hate hectic", the emotional streit, who also keeps a cool head when it matters, confesses.

Streit makes himself really comfortable in his home with a good cigar. "I try not to mess with my health, but asceticism is not my thing. I’d rather enjoy it and be 97 instead of 100," he says.

Favorite place cellar forest

He spontaneously names the kellerwald as his favorite place in forchheim. He likes to be with his friends in rovereto or with his wife karin on the island of sylt. But nowhere is as comfortable as at home "there is no hotel where i feel as comfortable as in my own four walls", franz concedes.

For the sake of his wife, however, he wants to travel a little more in the next few years. "Then I look forward to forchheim even more", laughs the jubilarian, who wants to retire from city politics. But the entrepreneur, who has a balanced relationship with money, says he wants to run again for the district council. "You can save yourself dead, but you mustn’t throw the money out the window either. Everything in its own time and everything needs to be well thought out", finds quarrel.

"When I look back, there are few things I would do differently. I am at peace with myself. I am particularly grateful that I met my wife, that she took me on and that our children turned out well", streit is satisfied.

And what goals does the "father" have? The forchheim beer queens? Here, too, the answer comes promptly. "I want to support my son in the company, have time for my wife and celebrate every birthday; it could be the last one."

It is one of those occasions when many of the people involved shrug their shoulders. But elke and manfred welsch do not do it. Symbolically speaking, they stomped on the ground with their fub, fighting for the existence of a stately oak tree in the residential area on mecklenburger strabe. But the chances that the tree will still be standing next year are not particularly high.

Last year, the owners' association decided that the tree had to be cut down. "The decision is legally binding and it is only a matter of time before the tree is cut down", says franz christ (chairman of the owners' association's advisory board), shrugging his shoulders. In the case of a community of owners, it is the majority that decides – and the majority has spoken clearly, only against the vote of the welsch family. But christ also admits: "it is the most beautiful and coarse tree in our plant."

Age: unknown
But if you look at the situation objectively, you have to admit: it's not well placed, the tree that stood roughly and prominently in the residential area some 25 years ago, when elke and manfred welsch moved from sonneberg to rodental. In the meantime, the oak has grown even more and, although it has already been pruned several times, it protrudes into the garage driveway of a house on cornflower way.

Whether the tree there is really, as was said at the owners' meeting, a massive threat to the structure of the garage and even creates dangerous tripping hazards with its acorns – no one can really say. Manfred welsch, whose bedroom is protected behind the oak tree, strongly doubts this: "this is false information"." If the tree really caused damage, welsch assures, then he too would bite the bullet and agree to its felling. But so? No!

Naturally, the struggle for the oak has meanwhile also reached michael leib, the manager of the real estate complex. But even he shrugs his shoulders and says: "I have the order of the community of owners. I have to implement it" even his personal opinion does not pay anything, adds the caretaker, who calls himself "a friend of the trees" designates. But legally there is nothing to stop the tree from falling. Also, because there is no tree protection ordinance in rodental. That's why leib has already set about implementing the order and solicited bids to fell the oak tree. "We are currently assessing the situation, and then we will see", says leib, who cannot give a time frame for the action.

Keyword: tree protection ordinance. In coburg, horst schunk was once chairman of the "baumschutz coburg" association the driving force behind the existence of such an ordinance there. If this was also valid in rodental, the tree in mecklenburger strabe could not be cut down so easily. Schunk was unable to comment on the specific case when asked by the tageblatt. But it's clear, said schunk, shrugging his shoulders: "without a tree protection ordinance, the tree can probably be felled." That is why he deeply regrets that so few cities and municipalities follow the example of the city of coburg.

A question of money?
"Maybe it's the costs that are causing the owners' association to ponder once again", hopes elke welsch. She and her husband have researched: the case could cost up to 5,000 euros – that's a lot of money.

Therefore, for the second time after 2009, manfred welsch wrote to all other members of the owners' association last week and asked them to reconsider their decision. Franz christ doubts that the owners will meet again and talk about the tree: "the organizational and ultimately also financial effort is too great." After all, the decision was made to combine the felling of the oak tree with a new planting. "But in no case in this place", franz christ clarifies. We will look for a corner with less potential for conflict – which should not be too difficult.
